(Prince George, BC) – Sixteen 2015 Canada Winter Games wheelchair basketball hopefuls will move closer to achieving their dreams of representing Team BC during a training camp at their Canada Games venue, Duchess Park Secondary School in Prince George, from Oct. 10 – 13th. The camp, which is supported by PacificSport Northern BC, will allow coaching staff to make their final team selection.

  • Prince George athlete Avril Harris, who is the son of disability advocates Pat and Nancy Harris, and who has been playing wheelchair basketball since he was 5. Avril was recently named as a recipient of the Pacific Western Brewing Hometown Hero funding.
  • Prince George athlete Joel Ewert.
  • Canadian U23 National Team members Jack Kosterman (Langley, BC) and Aiden Love (Victoria, BC).

To help the public learn more about wheelchair basketball, BC Wheelchair Basketball and PacificSport Northern BC will hold a special Explore Sport Try It Day on Saturday, Oct. 11th from 2 pm – 5 pm at Duchess Park Secondary School. Able-bodied people and people with disabilities of all ages are welcome to try wheelchair basketball and watch the Canada Winter Games athletes scrimmage. The media is also welcome.

Team BC will be coached by multiple Paralympic gold medalist Marni Abbott-Peter and Assistant Coach Simon Cass. The team will look to improve on their 7th place finish at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
