First Division I Weekend Saw Intense Matches
This past weekend (October 29 &30) was the start to the Div 1 season. The games were intense and unpredictable.
The Douglas College Lions and the Douglas College Royals coached had their first game at Douglas College on Friday night. The Royals had been leading the game and by half time they were up by one (29-28). After the third quarter, the Lions took control and pushed their way up and were leading by 9 points (50-41). The Lions were on fire! Their 3 top scorers were Bo Hedges (28), Kevin Bowie (17) and Ross MacDonald (16). The Royals played as best as they could to catch up with the Lions. However after an intense game, the Lions conquered with 74-54 at the end. The Royals' 3 top scorers were Erik Hagreen (21), Erik Vliegenthart (12) and Anthony Purcell (7).
The second game held at Trinity Western University on Sunday was just as intense. The Royals kept a lead on the Lions (34-27) right up until the third quarter. The Lions fought back to being only 3 points down (60-63). This game was close but except for 3 ties, the Royals kept their lead. Erik Hagreen (23), Erik Vliegenthart (18) and Jaimie Borisoff (12) were the top 3 scorers for the Royals while Ross MacDonald (35), Bo Hedges (12) and Kevin Bowie (10) lead their team in scoring. It was a great game and was very close up until the last quarter when the Royals was sccessful in revenge for Friday's loss with a final score of 69-64.
