BC Wheelchair Basketball Society receives Canada Post Community Foundation support to help BC Children with disabilities get active
Today, the BC Wheelchair Basketball Society (BCWBS) of Vancouver, BC has received $25,000 from the Canada Post Community Foundation for their innovative program, “Let’s Play”, which is delivered across British Columbia.
The program “Let’s Play” is designed to ignite a passion for play and physical activity in kids with physical disabilities by giving them the support, opportunity, and confidence to be active and healthy. Working with community partners, we identify children and provide resources, such as a sport wheelchair and teacher support, so kids can confidently participate in play, sport and physical education with their peers. By learning fundamental movement and wheelchair sports skills we also lay a foundation for lifelong activity, health, and enjoyment and, if desired, wheelchair sport participation.
“The vision for Let’s Play is that every child in BC with a mobility-related disability has a healthy and happy start to being physically active,” says BCWBS Executive Director Sian Blyth. “This grant from the Canada Post Community Foundation will have an immediate impact on the number of children with disabilities we can reach out to with our program.”
