Centre for Performance Camp Led by Junior National Team Coach Steve Bialowas
19 junior athletes gathered in Langley last weekend for the 3rd annual Centre for Performance camp hosted by Wheelchair Basketball Canad and BCWBS and led by Coach Steve Bialowas.
The weekend began with a chair skills session ran by the Performance Institutes, world class trainer Steve Ramsbottom. Steve led the group through a series of chair skills, pre and post game stretches and exercises to improve the overall athlete.
The first afternoon saw vast improvements in the young athlete’s defensive skills as we worked on 1 on 1 and 2 on 2 defense, as well as pick and rolls. The day finished with the players finding out just how fast they could be by using power cuts and pivots.
Day 2 was much the same, the athletes were split into two groups based on their age and skill and once again worked on pick and rolls, seals as well as various offensive plays. Testing on 20m sprints was also implemented and the athletes quite enjoyed being timed with high-tech timing lights and learning their current skill level.
The weekend was a great success with every player being able to take at least one new thing from the weekend back to their home club team. We would like to thank Coach Steve Bialowas and Steve Ramsbottom for coming out to help improve our junior players! We would also like to thank other volutneer coaches and family members for their support.
